Neckarsulm is the headquarters of KS Kolbenschmidt GmbH, including administration, R&D, and a part of global piston production. It is from here that all the operations of the Pistons division are masterminded.
Pistons have been produced here now for over eighty years. Founded in 1910 as Karl Schmidt GmbH by Karl Schmidt (son of Christian Schmidt, founder of the NSU-Motorenwerke) aluminum piston production began in 1920.
It is here in Neckarsulm that pistons for gasoline and diesel engines used to power passenger and commercial vehicles plus large-bore pistons for stationary engines, marine diesels and locomotive are developed, built, and marketed.
